Advantages compared to classical methods are the speed and accuracy of analysis. Sample preparation consists of filling glass tubes with paste and tempering them for 15 to 30 minutes. The subsequent measurement takes less than 10 minutes and can be carried out by untrained personnel. No chemical solvents are required, making this method the fastest, most convenient way of accurately determining the fluoride content in toothpaste.
The NMR method is independent of sample color, surface, etc., and does not destroy the paste. The analysis can be repeated as often as desired using the same sample.
The simplicity and the speed of the analysis make TD-NMR the method of choice for production, product development and quality control.

The TD-NMR analysis is based on the quantitative and linear signal response from the fluorine nuclei in the sample. Therefore the amplitude of the NMR signal S (Hahn-Echo) is directly proportional to the soluble fluorine mass.
